Kate's Alternative Wedding Dress...?
Sea Poem Dress 2011 gets an airing at Winchelsea beach. Lovely poet Alice Oswald's Sea Poem is written then stitched into my vintage wedding dress for art film project which is shaping up nicely!
Took 400 hours of me-time to sew the handwritten words - hope you feel it was worth it!

Poet Alice Oswald Endorses Use of Sea Poem Text in Art Film....
Amazing day! Poet Alice Oswald, Winner of T.S Eliot Prize 2007 and shortlisted for the Forward Prize, rang me to say yes to using her beautiful words in my work.
Sea Poem is the basis of a Short Art Film - six dresses deconstructed, reconstructed and stitched into each stanza of the poem.
Each dress is filmed separately - merging into the Sussex coastline, referencing the poem and linking femininity to the ocean.
We've shot the first dress - the first two minutes of the film. Early days but with Alice behind us our project is growing in amazing ways!

Textile installation piece based on memory and family memoir, 'Wedding Dress 2011', It's my vintage wedding dress, embroidered with diary entries from the days leading up to my recent wedding. Alongside it my parents' wedding photograph. Poignant to me. Stirring feelings of nostalgia, remembrance and yearning.
